I'm pretty much bored all day every day this summer. I've also noticed that not much about this site - as far as the tech end of things goes - has changed. So, since I have some free time, I'm open to hear any suggestions you may have to offer about site improvements and changes.
Don't be shy. If I think you have a good idea, I'll probably do something to put it into effect.

i think there should be a portal or some kind of central page before the forum, something like interlopers with news posts and tutorials/articles linked in with the portal/forum combined. i'm not suggesting an unoriginal clone of an existing website, but this place has become more than just a forum for the studio. there is more interest in surf mapping and surf in general (non-mappers also visit the site) and the site as a whole needs to reflect that. more or less what i'm thinking is a place for the entire surf community, which sounds a bit silly, and everything has it's pros/cons, but it's just my 0.02$.
also, i hope you haven't dropped the entscripter idea D:

That is a good idea. It's also a ton of work. I'll look into exactly what I need to do to make it work. I may have to gather some volunteers. I've tried to do the portal thing in the earlier days of the site with basically no success. I think integrating with the forums will be key. I haven't forgotten about the entity scripting thing, but I haven't made any progress either. It's kind of hard with only a laptop that's incapable of running CS:S well. |

Do you think a premade CMS would be best? I was thinking about putting something together with one of the available MVC frameworks for PHP - probably codeigniter.
Would you recommend any particular CMS? Also what would you see your role in making the site being (ie design/db/PHP coding/admin duties)?

Think of it as a baby ocelot (A few people on here know what that is, keep is hush!) I'll see what I can do about a thumbing system, although downboating and upyaughting always sounded better. |

I love to help too, really like these things. And i wouldn't pick a CMS but just make it yourself, this way you can build whatever you want. Im building a CMS atm myself, and i can just build what I need, and don't have to edit an existing CMS. Thats not true lol, this is a file YOU have to include into your script, then you will need Sintax' Settings.php... Its a weird api. |
