I was wondering how to get the grid closer/smaller that you get when you paint geometry.
The lines kind of make seperate sections so that you can raise/lower specific parts...
I get these ugly rectangular shapes  Mad

No one in the youtube tutorial videos says how, they just have it instantly...

(I want to lower only the top face of the brush and the brush is about 3000x3000 units)

you can see different points where the lines come together on the screenshot below.. I want to know how to get more of them

You have to make more than one brush and sew those two together (or three) because 4 is the highest...I think.

don't know what you mean with sewing together. I see that button 'Sew' but that's it.

Make two brushes then select both and hit displace.. Set the power to whatever and then hit sew that way when you mess around and "paint geometry" they move together and don't cause leaks.

Make sure you only select the front faces to disp or you'll end up with fucked up backfaces

It went well

I didn't even need to sew them, just splitting the face in smaller pieces was good enough!

Gracias

Glad I could help. But you still might need to sew them together just to be sure. And remember, displacements can't seal off a map so if they're going to be the border make sure somethings behind them.

You only need to sew them together if you displace each brush individually... which I hope to hell no one does...

Also worth noting that from vbsp's perspective displacements aren't world geom, so make sure to put a nodraw brush underneath it.
