15% of this was tought to me by reapZi, many thanks.

I use this method ONLY in my 2 newest videos, (surf_annoyance and surf_network series)
Found here: http://www.youtube.com/pand3micdrums

REQUIREMENTS

Note: Some of this isn't freeware, i recommend getting pirated copies, but for obvious reasons I will not post links to pirated versions of such software...

  • Fraps
  • Sony Vegas 8 (NOT 9)
  • My Hud hide cfg files. (Below)
  • Plenty of HDD space (At lease 15gb) if you do not have at least 15gb, you might get a blue screen of death.

How to make hud hide cfg's!

Put this in notepad:

Code:
// Hide the HUD
sv_cheats 1
// ONLY ON LAN SERVER
r_drawviewmodel 0
hud_saytext_time 0
hud_deathnotice_time 0
cl_drawhud 0

Now save as hudhide.cfg in cstrike/cfg.

Now do this again:

Code:
// Show the HUD
// ONLY ON LAN SERVER
r_drawviewmodel 1
hud_saytext_time 11
hud_deathnotice_time 6
cl_drawhud 1
// Finish Up
sv_cheats 0

save as hudshow.cfg in the same place.

Detailed Process

1. Start CS:S. Put these in the console:

Code:
tv_enable 1
tv_delay 10

2. Click "Create a server". Choose the map you wan't to make a video of. Load it.

3. As you normally would to practice, put sv_airaccelerate 150 in console.

IMPORTANT: If you haven't already, right click Counter-Strike: Source in your steam and click properties, then find "Set launch options". In the text field, put -tickrate 66.

4. Once your map is loaded, in console type tv_record <name>. Replace <name> with a DEMO name. For example: "tv_record legendarynofail"

5. Quit being a pussy and lose your virginity.

6. Once you have surfed the map, tv_stoprecord.

7. Now stop your game, open options IN CS:S

8. In the video tab, set resolution to 1280x720 and windowed mode. This is for widescreen HD.

9. Open fraps.

10. Set fraps at 30 fps for 300fps, 60 for 600. They are both very smooth, but i recommend 30 for best performance. (I use 30 in my videos, link at the top of the tutorial).

11. In console, type host_timescale 0.1. This makes the demo play exactly 10x slower.

12. Type playdemo <demo name>. For example, "playdemo legendarynofail"

13. When it starts playing really slow, type this in console:

Code:
exec hudhide.cfg

14. Now we wait. This will take a long time but it will be worth it.

15. Once your demo is finished, eat some fish.

16. After the fish, stop recording fraps, and close css.

17. Fraps splits movies every 3gb or so, so find all those movies in c:\fraps\movies.

18. Import every fraps clip in sony vegas.

19. Do steps 20-28 for each clip you have.

20. Find how long your clip is.

21. Say our clip is 2:23, multiply minutes by 60, so 60 * 2 = 120.

22. Add the number of seconds to the number we have, so 120+23 = 143. If you haven't figured this out already, 143 is our total seconds!

23. Divide seconds by 10. For me, it is 14.3, this means that the clip 10x faster, at its normal speed, is 14.3 seconds.

24. Move the time slider thing (i don't know exactly what its called, just the thing that shows where you are in your video) to 14.3 seconds of the clip.

25. Now keep it there, right click the video, insert envellope -> velocity.

26. Drag the green line all the way up.

27. You should should see little white arrows on your clip. Move your mouse to the end of the clip, hold Ctrl, and drag to the left until the white arrow is right on the time slider thing.

28. Then just press S to split your video at that point. It is now at the normal speed!

Note, it will look sped up in the preview window, but it is not actually.

29. Edit the video, add music, and render.

THATS IT!

Once you render, you will have a rainbow orgasm GUARANTEED!

G'night kids  Thumbs Up

No longer required to use the -tickrate switch as the engine is hardlocked at 66 tick.

Also you're doing it the damn long way.

- sv_cheats 1
- host_framerate 30
- startmovie [videoname]_ (Underscore not required but very useful later on)
- r_drawviewmodel 0; cl_drawhud 0; net_graph 0
- playdemo [demo_name]
- endmovie
- Go to Steam/SteamApps/[accountname]/counter-strike source/cstrike
- Find the .tga frame stream (named [videoname][framenumber].tga)
- Open VirtualDubMod
- File > Open Browse to the game dir, e.g. "Steam/SteamApps/[accountname]/counter-strike source/cstrike"
- Open the first frames ([videoname]_0000.tga)
- OPTIONAL Video > Compression, pick DivX*
- File > Save As

Smaller file size, no need for piracy.

*DivX coded required, download HERE

EDIT: Using tga export means you don't get mouse overrun like you do with fraps (example being stage 2 on the annoyance video)

They're both lossless methods (targa output on source being lossless 24 bpp), if you don't want lossy video output just skip the compression step.

actuallayy...

you get the awesome smoothness of 300-600fps with the long way and a lame old 30 fps that is painful to look at doing it that way.

and the mouse problem on stage 2 was because i was recording fraps at the low timescale and I thought it would be fun to minimize my game, i did not know my mouse shows when my game is minimized. that won't happen again

You might want to add that it's important that Fraps FPS is stable - as soon as it is not stable, speak going up and down alot - the movie/clip will endup being laggy and full of ruckus.
FPS going up +2/-2 is still considered stable!

Obviously the better your computer, the higher stable FPS you should be able to record with FRAPS.
I record with 100 FPS and only use timescale 0.25 - still equals 400 FPS and goes way faster Smile.
Also you don't have to go through the calculating pain, because you can just set playbackrate to 4x in Vegas ^^

spooz - my method gets a smoother result than host_framerate 30 & sourcerecorder + it's faster.
Although it requires a halfgood computer & gpu...

Anything better than a nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS should do Wink

Source recorder is better than whatever the fuck you are doing, you are guaranteed to get a stable framerate in your video as long as you aren't retarded and you do it right.
