Questions / Need some logic_ help

Having been out of mapping for quite some time, there are some things that I no longer remember to do. With the addition of the sdk changes and how hammer works now and things being different and all, I'm actually a little confused.

My current issue is with entities reading a logic_ entities state across multiple rounds. What I'm trying to accomplish is for an XIV style map in which there are multiple different "selections" a user can select at the beginning of the round.

My end goal is this:

>User selects specific map
>After a selection is made, a box/contraption of sorts is enabled at the start of every round thereafter that prevents users from picking that selection again for a few rounds or so.
>After a determined amount of rounds, the selection becomes available again as the box/contraption disappears.

I'm having issues getting this to work.

What I've tried so far:

logic_auto, logic_branch, math_counter, func_button, func_brush

logic_auto:
OnMapSpawn > logic_branch > test

logic_branch:
OnTrue (1) > func_brush > Enable
OnFalse (0) > func_brush > Disable
OnTrue (1) > math_counter > Subtract > 1

math_counter (Min 0, Max 10):
OnHitMin > logic_branch > SetValue > 0

func_button:
OnPressed > math_counter > Add > 5
OnPressed > logic_branch > SetValue > 1

For some reason, even though this seems like it should work, it doesn't, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

I'm sure the solution to this will come to me within the next few hours if I keep working at it, but I though I'd post it here to get other solutions to make sure I don't make this FUBARd.

Visual reference:

Both doors teleport 1 person of each team. When the 1 person of their team is chosen, their teleport disables.

What I am looking to do is after 20s if one or both teams have no one chosen, I need to pick 1 random person from the teams.

My current solution to teleporting 1 random person:
Have a trigger_multiple for a team that does
-OnStartTouch
-!activator
-Addoutput
-targetname CTHERO

-OnStartTouch
-CTTELEPORT
-Enable
(filter CTHERO for teleport)

-OnStartTouch
-Trigger_multiple
-Disable

The multiple has a delayed refire so it can't teleport more than 1 person.

If that doesn't work then I have two problems. My main problem is having this fallback NOT be enabled if a "Hero" is chosen from their team while still enabling to choose a "Hero" from the other team should no one go through that door.



Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm tired.

Make him realize that rebuilding an engine is a slow and methodical process. Make him realize that every step should be regarded as surgery; every step must be perfect… perfect torque, perfect fit, perfectly clean. If you run into a step that you just can’t figure out, ask for help from someone who knows what he’s doing. Are you cute? Put on a low-cut top, show some cleavage and go (by yourself) to the local Jeep shop, and explain to the guys that you are helping your boyfriend to rebuild his engine and neither of you can figure out this one little step, and do they have any advice…

Think it won’t work? Think again. We guys love to help cute girls, even if they have a boyfriend. (Hey, maybe you’ve got a sister, or girlfriend…)

But absolutely DO NOT whine or complain. Do not say a single negative thing. Not a single “Oooooo, I broke a nail.” If you break a nail, or cut your finger, or bang a knuckle, you just shut up and DEAL WITH IT. You should be a hopelessly optomistic, never-say-die cheerleader, encouraging him every step of the way.

That’s my opinion.

Questions / How to check players alive

Okay...I can't think of how to do this without thoroughly fucking it up in it's entirety.
I have a mg map going and one of the games is blender (spinning blade). I want to take count of the players alive at all times to choose when it speeds up.

I need to check players alive upon spawning at the minigame to determine the start speed. Should anyone die, I need to recheck the count to alter the speed after the player(s) die. This check doesn't have to be instant, it can fire on a timer, but I still need it.

(Since there's no real question stated above: HOW THE FUCK DO I CHECK THE COUNT OF PLAYERS ALIVE AND THEN SEND IT TO A COMPARE TO SET THE SPEED?)

We're trying to up our maplist over on the WCS server I administrate and my friend recommended this amazing CS 1.6 map that we just absolutely needed. I of course obliged, but I have run into a couple of problems:

I can't figure out how to decompile 1.6 maps (I have bsp2map and I can't figure out how to work that PoS)
I can't open up 1.6 maps in hammer, because I don't own 1.6

If someone could help me achieve my goal of converting this map into CS:S, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's about time I made this official. This release is over 3 years old. Many times have I told people that this was to happen (mainly drunken nights talking to people on steam/aim) over the years. Only now do I have the true inspiration.

I don't know if this is a skill, linear, or combat. This is just a cluster fuck of complex shit I'm putting together.

The main purpose of the original will remain throughout this sequel, and in my hopes of making it 10x better (Plus it will be optimized:]) If you have actually played the first and found anything you like in that map that you would like me to include in this one please let me know.

Depending on how busy I am you can hopefully expect a screenshot or two by Monday evening EST.

Holy shit this was an intense game! I just started my second run through of prestige on Call of Duty: World at War and we were playing on Banzai in Hardcore Search & Destroy. I chose my favorite stock class of the 3: An SVT-40 with 2 Satchel Charges, Stopping Power, and Extreme Conditioning. Man that game was terrible, it ended up with them winning and me going 0-4. Bad game is BAD!


We start up another game on Cliffside, and as usual, I pick the same stock class.

The game is 6v6 and we start out on the defending team. The timer slowly counts down, 5...4...3...2...1...DEFEND ZE OBJECTIVE! I take a quick left and run across the bridge and up the war torn scenic path towards the bombsite, I throw my usual hand grenade across the bombsite onto the other teams territory in the hopes to get a kill(s). By the time I get into the actual bombsite and into my little camping spot, 3 of my 5 teammates are dead, just as I notice this an enemy is right in front of me in the doorway rushing me, I quickly exit out of the scoreboard and fire off a few rounds into his thick skull. MAN WAS THAT CLOSE! About half a minute goes by of no clear action or incident when all of a sudden, my other two teammates die on me. It's left with me and 5 enemies, the odds are very unlikely for my situation. Me being a smart player, I'm using headphones, and I can hear an enemy in the mountains behind me. As I'm listening carefully waiting for my prey to come closer to me, another victim runs across my field of vision through the doorway of which his fallen comrade met his doom. I take a quick second to aim and...BOOM...Another soldier with a hole in his head. By this time I'm thinking, OK where's the guy behind me? I turn around to take a quick look because I hadn't heard from him in a little bit and sure enough, there he was standing in the doorway above the stairs, he had walked the rest of the way. Startled by this find, I quickly move my crosshair over to him and spray a clip into him. As I run up the stairs to pick up his gun because it's always better to have two then one, his buddy comes running down the mountain in front of me, I quickly switch to my new gun because I wasted all my clip on his friend and fire off a few rounds into him. This round was so intense I didn't even realise I acquired a recon plane, completely slipping my mind, I run out of the bombsite and hide in a corner behind a wall that was right next to the bombsite. I take a few seconds to recover and reload both of my weapons when I hear footsteps in the bombsite behind me. I take out my SVT and steady the sight as I creep into the doorway peering at the stairs; waiting for my kill. Soon enough he fulfills my expectations and runs up the stairs and right into the sights of my gun. I turn back for cover unaware that the last enemy was right next to his recently slaughtered teammate, and that the footsteps I had heard were his, not the other guys. He fires off a few shots quickly in the hopes to catch me before I get behind the wall and pegs me in the buttocks, in shock I act in fear quickly and run back through the doorway to meet my final enemy right in front of me, rushing me at the same time. I quickly press the right stick down and my blade goes flying through his stomach. A round won, fallen comrades avenged.


At the start of the second round I call in my newly acquired artillery strike, right in the base of the enemy, for it is a known sniper heaven. I do my usual routine on my way up to the bombsite as the artillery takes its course. As I reach the top of the mountain and throw my grenade, mortar shells have stricken the land and killed 2 of my foes. As I keep on running I learn the news that my hand grenade has met success, body parts have been blown apart at my will. "This game is a massacre", I thought to myself as I called in my now acquired recon plane. As my radar appears I notice two of my teammates running towards the area where I called in my strike, the thought was heart throbbing. As I waited in suspense, mortar shells kept claiming the land as their own, and successfully ended the lives of 2 of my comrades. As I claim to them on the microphone that their deaths will not have been in vain, 2 Marines run across my FOV, running straight towards me. I react to this news and quickly take out one of them, the other...not so lucky. He quickly dodges behind the wall after firing a few shots at me as I do the same. I take a moment to catch my breath and regain my calm. There I sat behind the tomb-like grave, staring down my sights intently at the doorway, waiting for him to make his move. The last few moments of his life were the most nerve-wracking of mine. As he still sits behind the wall, not making a move, an enemy off in the distance is making a hustle towards the other bombsite. As he runs across in my view I fire off a shot and barely hit him in the leg as he continues to run away, the worst time I could have expected the other guy to make his move was now. The levels of my distraction and lack of patience rose drastically in those few seconds. As I started to move to try and get a better shot on the wounded foe, he makes his move, sprawling through the doorway scaring me half to death. I fire a couple of shots missing him and killing the wounded just before he takes my life. A triumphing defeat. I can only hope as my teammates try to pick up my slack but fail miserably.


The start of round 3, Game score: 1-1, my score: 11-1. This round is as uneventful as ever, the two combating teams share kills and it's down to a 2v2 with the bomb planted. As me and my teammate run up to the bombsite I quickly locate one of the 2 and take him down. Meanwhile my companion makes his move towards the bomb to defuse it. As I sit and cover him and I find the 2nd guy and fire a few warning shots off at him in hopes that it will stall him as my teammate is seconds away from finishing the defuse. I continue to fire at him as I hear the good news of the bomb being defused and the round ends with him still alive. Halftime: 2-1 us, 12-1 for me. Rounds 4, 5, and 6 prove to be my downfall. As we lose two rounds in both of which I die, and 1 round that we win, with me only getting 1 kill out of the 3 rounds. Overtime, Switching Sides. As the final and deciding round starts I am 13-3. The final round proves to be a fast one, as my teammates take out 4 members of the enemy team within the first 20 seconds. I take cue from them and change my strategy and rush out the bottom doorway of my usual bombsite. As I get nearer to the doorway I notice an enemy camping behind the half wall right in front of me; waiting for me. I quickly look down my sights and fire a shot into his face, unaware that his teammate was behind me. My demise my own fault, but not in vain. My team quickly picks up after me winning the game for us.

Syobon Action 2 - Also known as Cat Mario. This game is pretty fun but stupid as hell and can easily push you off the edge of insanity at how hard the levels are if you try to beat it.

I'm in dire need of help with this. The end of the world will surely happen if it doesn't work out.

So..I'm trying to get the vmf for de_dust2_unlimited and when decompiling it, it stops here:

Even with my superior awesomeness(lol) I have no idea what this means or how to get around it. I really need this vmf so I can fix it up and make it compatible for the WCS server I play at.

Tutorials / [Beginner] Making things change on random.

I'm surprised there isn't a tutorial for this, although it is fairly easy. But I (used to) get a lot of people asking how to make things in your map be altered with a random factor.

Don't know what I'm talking about? Take one round for example, your teleport is in one place...next round it's in another place. Follow? Yeahhh, there you go.
Anyways, on to the tutorial. For this tutorial you're going to need a basic knowledge of hammer and it's contents, and maybe a little more if you're wanting to go deeper. But let's not get ahead of ourselves there, Johnny.

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to make a basic spotlight that changes color each round with no specific order.


Open up your vmf in hammer and create a basic 256x256x256 hollow box.


Add in a spawnpoint and a light(s) and create a brush we're going to use as a pedestal


Create a point_spotlight entity and center it on top of your pedestal.


Add in these parameters to the spotlight, and then go to the flags tab and uncheck "Start On".


Done all that? Good, boring part is over. Create a logic_case and a logic_auto and give your case a name.
Go to the outputs tab of the case and set it up how ever you want similar to mine. In mine my light is going to be colored Red, Green, or Blue.


Finally, go to the outputs tab on your logic_auto and add this single output.

As cool as that may look. I really did not make that, nor do I want it.
I created a standard sphere with 16 sides, 30x30x30. It looked really weird (Not like the pic) like some edges were flat and some jagged, but it still looked like a sphere. I saved the file, and reopened it in hammer and it had formed into what is in the pic.

The part before the pic happens with all non-block geometry (Cylinder,Arch,Spike,Sphere,etc.)
Usually I'll create a cylinder with 32 sides and it'll come out like a first aid cross but fatter.

Did I miss some memo about a certain file or something? This has been happening for a while but I always just ignored it and worked the long way around it.

Okay, I've done a bit of browsing on the SDK wiki and in Hammer, but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. As many of you have played the Valve games (Half-Life series) you will know what I'm talking about.

During the games there are cut screens where you cannot move and you are on a track set by the game.
I'm looking to achieve this same effect in CS:S, however, I cannot find the right entity or a good method.

Now I know that this certain effect is beyond useless in CS:S as it's a multiplayer game, but I'm merely testing this out in CS:S because it's a lot easier to make.


I'm posting this here in search of help hoping that some of you know the right entity or have a good method.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Questions / Need browser help.

I just recently got back to my computer and my browser is acting funny. It's cutting colours, screwing up pictures. It doesn't play videos, it starts playing them and it randomly stops and won't let me finish the video.

Everything was working fine when I left, I shut my computer off for the whole time I was gone. I came back and I installed a bunch of updates I needed, except one. That being Firefox 3. Firefox notified me that my version of Firefox was out of date (2.something) and that I should update to 3. So I clicked the auto-update button and it did it's stuff but it never finished installing, it just sat there for a couple hours with the green bar going back and forth. I clicked the X and went to Mozilla and downloaded it manually. Every time I try to open the application it says -File is corrupt-. Even after multiple downloads and restarts.

Everything else that runs on my computer is up-to-date and working, meaning that my browser is the problem.


Can anyone help me, please?

1. I'm having a button being activated by a grenade and I need only the activator to be teleported out of the group of people. How?
2. Is it possible and if so how, to take a certain amount of health away only from the thrower of the grenade if they miss the button.

Is it possible to have a button team filtered, but the button can only be activated by taking damage from a nade?

Ryan said no, but he said he wasn't sure either, and I'm hoping he is wrong.
