surf_purgatory_beta3

Map name: surf_purgatory
Plot: You start at spawn then get teleported to purgatory then you surf to heaven if you fall u go to hell. (edit) you go back to beginning of level, only on the last couple levels u go to hell. (jail)
Texture scheme:
   Heaven: light colored happiness
   Hell: Dark, red, fire
   Purgatory: Space, metal, modern
   Spawn: space, metal, modern
Number of levels/Description: There will be levels but they won’t be marked people will just call them levels (edit) I might just make a number decal.





I have part of the first level done. only like 10% of the map done. My water broke it like flashes and the other water i have i tried putting it in a tank like thing with less than 5 sides no draw which really made it freak. Tell me if u no how to fix it. (edit)I have not figured out the texture schism so at the moment i am just using basic metals. But I do have levels 1-6 planned out and part of 7. I have completed levels 1, 2, and most of 3.

Yes, Needs lots of lighting, Plus, I don't see any surf? Or am I missing it?


Try Changing your water texture or put like env_cube, idk what else would work? (Maybe tie it to func_water_analog lawl, idk)

I am working on the surf... i am not good at creating ramps so it will take a while. What kind of lighting would u recomend.

What settings do u have to change in the light. Is the half fall off thing or what cuz I fiddled around with settings but cant get it right?

You yse the light entitiy, then you experiment with it's settings.

I am going to change the name because now that I think about it, its retarded. I also am flat out of ideas and the main theme that I had in mind doesn't work so... I think I will try to recruit mappers to make individual levels. So if anyone wants to make a level for it pm me.

Good luck with the rest of the map, I hope you keep on going with it.

The name is most likely going to be surf_purgatory. Anyway, I cant do shit until some experienced mappers make some levels for me. I am not saying I am a bad mapper I am saying I am out of ideas... now I have to wait tell I get more.

So you don't really want pieces to the map?  You just want the ideas?  You should be able to come up with those on your own.  My trick to coming up with some is to just stop mapping for a while.  Play in some servers and just enjoy playing maps.  While doing that, find what you really like and really hate about certain maps, and then use the "good" parts and think of how you can make them better or more original (Don't just copy ideas, make them your own.).  Just sitting at your computer with Hammer open hoping something will spark your imagination is not the way to go about it.  I say just take a break from mapping and come back to it in a week or so.  If you don't have the creativity you want, wait another week and repeat the process.

Ah, that's how you check something quickly, On my map that im trying to make has like 100 light bulbs, and every time i want to check I compile the map, f compiling takes a while.

When the round starts there will be a voice countdown and when the round is nearly over the map will play the song, the final countdown. If you are the first one the get to any level, in your comment box it will say: I am leading on level ' '! Depending on the level the number in ' ' will be different. When you beat the map both teams will be put into cages and the winner will gets noclip! The area will be completely closed off by teleporters. Since you have to turn sv_cheats 1 on I will make it so you have to push a button when your done flying to turn it off. YA! \

Glad you thought the whole noclipping thing trough. I wonder what will stop the losing team form typing noclip into console when sv_cheats is on.

I don't get your textures. What do they have to do with purgatory?

What did you think about the custom sound idea?

The custom sound idea was included in my previous statement. The final countdown has nothing do do with purgatory, and neither do your textures. Also the noclip idea should really be taken out, because what you planned makes no sense. They could noclip outside of the map and when sv_cheats 1 is turned off everyone will fall ad infinitum. If you want to play the final countdown maybe you should rename your map to something more spacey, being that the map is in space and the final countdown is a love song about a rocket taking off. Just edit the end of level 7 and maybe your theme will go over better, because honestly that isn't even close to what anyone thinks of purgatory.

EDIT: oh, i forgot to say, alot of those concepts have been done many times. Doesn't look very original, except for the lights on the windows. This is probably because nobody else wanted to put lights on windows anyway. Also, i don't think turning sv_cheats 1 off will terminate noclip. I just saw that you're confining the area with teleporters, but who the hell wants to fly in a tiny space? Who the hell wants to fly that badly in a jail? I could understand going into create-a-server and setting sv_cheats 1 and noclipping to scope out a map, but nobody will care about that in a jail. People only ask for noclip to fly without restrictions, so if you're flying in a confined space that would be boring...

Actually, they won't die if noclip is removed. Because there are so many teleporters they will simply fall and fall and fall making neverending rounds.

Your map will most likely crash servers. When players are allowed to noclip then they have the ability to go outside the boundaries of the grid which will crash the server and your computer. Try it and find out for yourself.

He has it boxed in by teleporters, so you can't noclip outside of that box, which in theory would work, but enabling sv_cheats on a public server is just retarded. It's exactly the kind of idea Thay would come up with.
