surf_roof-tops
« on: October 25, 2009, 04:39:25 PM »
yup, thats right, im finally making a thread on this map
quite probable that many of you haven't heard of it \
so, its time for a lil story \

way WAY back in my early days of mapping, i made a map call surf_city
it was near complete shit, the only good thing was the lay out, and possibility for secrets
fast forward a year or 2, and im randomly loading up old .vmfs and came across surf_city
i really liked the lay out, and decided to re-map it
week and a half later, had it done (for the most part)
shit loads of secrets too many to count, had the first beta on bucks server
i tried to keep the old school feel of the map as well, thus no lights, and simple textureing
and im not going to bother with the rest, were now at beta_2a

and hear are the pictures (taken carefully as to not give away any secrets \)

shit that's a lot of pics, and I'm to lazy to tell you what there are of \

and mediafire link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ydn0nv03j22

currently uploading SS mirror, taking too long, so until its done, you guys are going to have to deal with media fire \
poo shit fuck- got an error while uploading:
Warning: md5_file() [function.md5-file]: Filename cannot be empty in /home/sintaxerror0/upload.solidsurf.info/upload.php on line 16
That file is not allowed to be uploaded.

trying RS now
ok, hear is RS mirror
http://rapidshare.com/files/297786659/surf_roof-tops-beta2a.bsp.html

ok, hear is a (hope fully) good mirror
http://www.filefactory.com/file/a064dea/n/surf_roof-tops-beta2a_bsp

basically the question is, do you guys think i should release it in this state?, or should i change anything?
I AM NOT GOING TO ADD LIGHTS, IT RUINS A FEW OF THE SECRETS
FULL BRIGHT FTW

did you ever make any changes from when we beta tested it on the shack? i mean werent both teams always together and everyone was always shooting each other on the platforms? correct me if i'm wrong, or if you made any changes to fix that.

i'd like to see this map completed and released.

There's nothing wrong with fulbright \ but I guess if you're new to surf you wouldn't understand that all the original maps that we (people with 4+ years of surfing experience) loved and learned on were fulbright.

I agree, and I still think combat maps should be fullbright. True it doesn't look colorful and exciting, but it improves the gameplay.
map looks pretty fun, maybe tone down the fog a bit.

Well that was my opinion too :\

Feedback on the map:  I love it alot, but the only thing that bothers me is the deagle, what it does, doesn't outweigh what you have to do to get it.  Maybe have it change your alpha or grav or health or have it take you somewhere when you right click or hit E.  Power Fusion and I both agree that the deagle wouldn't be worth getting.

and yes that is the way, but oh, which windows, and how many? XD
EDIT- were you the first to pick it up?, i could see dropping it screwing over the trigger_hurt that's parented to it

i personally would change up the ramp textures, they're a bit...bad? haha but that's just me.

go for something more "building-like"

didn't notice you put this up, do wish to say, although the fog makes the secrets harder to find, i dont fell that it adds to the game play, it takes away sniping half way across the map which isnt bad, but i loved it when it was sunny! :S

lets not get too off topic, adding a sun would add lights, which as previously mentioned would make a few secrets, not so secret \

I'm not a big fan of the ramp texture. I like your idea, everything looks clean (except for the ramp textures  \). I'd like to see this finished, so good luck on this!

I think it would be a nice idea to make some decals, like uhh... Graffity or heads
and then you can put them on the walls, it make it some less repetative (if thats the right word)
Succes \ Nicely done so far.

There's no teleport for falling in the autoshotty part
lols compleatly forgot about this

also, i spent my spare today thinking up ideas for secrets, so ill be adding them in later

also, adding decals would, in my mind, ruin the old school aspect of the map, so for now ill leave them out

o did you fix the unsurfable ramp? and also i got stuck in jail here n there, but that was old version. Wont bug u about the fog xD i just think you should tone it down a touch, cuz i like looking around the map, n that makes it look, compact n gloomy
