I am pleased to say that I have started working on this project again. Updated 9th June 2012

surf_expressionz is a skill-surf map which will be made up of 4-5 6 levels. Each level will have its own unique theme. The map will feature an original and unseen level and jail system, I will be keeping that part a surprise until the map is released to keep it unique.

Yes, this is basically another staged skill surf map. With some new ideas up my sleeve I will try my best to make it as fresh and innovative as skill surf can get so hopefully it won't turn out as "just another stage skill map"

I will keep this thread up to date with details on the maps progress. Check out my youtube channel from time to time for work-in-progress videos which I will be making for most levels once they're are completed. http://www.youtube.com/user/ptad445

The levels here are ordered by when they are completed and not how they will be arranged in the finished map.

Level 1 "japan"
Status: COMPLETED! Re-touching/extending this level to bring it up to standards

Map entity systems 50%

Level 5 and other possible bonus levels: wont bother talking about them for now
Level 7 haven't started yet due to possible engine constraints compromising design

@ Ryans: I've never seen that map before, looks pretty cool. Is it released? Coincidence I suppose, the idea I had was to make a surf skill level based from surf_japan_ptad.

@ PimpJuice: I was thinking about HDR and how amazing it would make it look, however the thing I'm worried about is map file size. I think its already going to be huge without HDR. If the other levels come out with "hdr potential" then might consider it more. Also that map you used as an example looks great!

I made it a few days ago \, and no it's not released (read: bored during blizzard). I just thought it was funny that you started making a japan themed map, because the other day I was playing your version of japan and wondered if I could make a japan themed surf arena map, that's all \.

This really does look amazing. If the other levels have the same quality looks + style (not that they are all japan, that they are all that "type" of surfing), this is going to be a great map.

I was originally thinking of making a surf_parrot_selector2, then I remembered how hard linear maps are to pull off successfully and wimped out haha. Then the idea was changed to staged skill surf with 3 rather long stages each following a theme from the 3 maps I've released (surf_bob theme would be updated though). I have since scrapped that idea because I wanted more levels. I still plan to experiment with a new surf_bob kinda theme for a level in expressionz so yeah that could turn out interesting.

2 stages for each theme from your maps? I think a parrot selector 2 would be brilliant!

fantastic looking map there ptad.

love the surf, mostly because it arent ramps in the mid of the air (im cool with them) but theyre actually there, the roofs and the walls etc.

my thought on making a parrot selector stage wouldnt be as good.

but yeah thats just my feedback. Good luck with this map

Just an update, level 2 is going to be parrot selector style. Its taken a while to detail but I'm pretty much done. Now i'm trying to figure out why my env_beams are not cooperating while being parented with my func_rotating. I haven't done too much research and I'm guessing I'm just being a big noob so hopefully I'll get that working soon so I can post some screen shots  \

Env_beams are cool, but stay classy, ptad. You're one of the few that can pull off making a clean map without too much fancy shit amd still make it look good.

Look if another func_rotating have the same name...

If this doesn´t work just change func_brush to func_door.
