surf_commune collaborative restoration
« on: April 28, 2010, 03:37:37 PM »
This is the commune resoration project.

Keep checking the first post for updates.

Simple guidelines:

- Don't bother putting your name in, I will be placing the original mapper and your own after it is submitted
- The spawn of your level should be compatible to have a generic spawn box placed in it. (This will be similar to the box on AC and Pyro levels. )
- I am looking to see the flavor of each level preserved. If you want to modify the flow/surf significantly, post before you do for review.
-Keep in mind, the environmental light will be generic looking, white, and directed straight down.
-Remember, do not share your stage publically. Submit them to me via AIM or PM
-Keep %planes/vertices to a minimum. I will edit levels at my own disgression for superfluous things.

The stages are, in order:
*The renovator of choice is subject to change, without warning. This will be based in my usual fashion, a combination of favoritism and whim*
**Any mapper can submit a revamped stage of their own make, for anything they are not chosen for. I will choose the better between the two. This can be announced in private or publically.**

Spawn - (FAJ) - ('commune' scheme) ------------------------------------- [renovator = TILT]
Level 1 - (Assaulted Combat) - (outdoor roadway/raceway) ---------------- [renovator = Arjenlodder]
Level 2 - (Dr.Pepper) - (fortification, aircontrol through columns) ----------- [renovator = Paul]
Level 3 - (Hotshot) - (inside pipe duct, moving obstacles) ------------------ [renovator = Power-Fusion]
Level 4 - (Mike Knoop) - (cavern, bunnyhop/long jump) -------------------- [renovator = Spoz]
Level 5 - (Super) - (stone, glass ramps, catch-ramp blocking obstacles) ---- [renovator = Cornibulus]
Level 6 - (Pyro) - (grass and sand, air control, high jump) ------------------ [renovator = Knife]
Level 7 - (Razr) - (outdoors, grass and brick, pushes and moving obstacles) - [renovator = Sangre]
Level 8 - (FAJ) - ( 'arena' scheme) ---------------------------------------- [renovator = Electric]

Mappers not yet assigned a section -
------------------------------------
- Ryan S. (Goddamned everything)
- Paper-Cut (Undecided)

I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, I WANT THE SURF TO BE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE ORIGINAL. OLD SCHOOL RAMPS AND BROKEN RAMPS AND ALL THAT. I DO NOT WANT TO SEE A BUNCH OF BABY-ASS SMOOTH RAMPS AND CURVES; NOT WHAT THIS IS ABOUT. IT MAY BE NECESSARY, AND IT IS RECOMMENDED, THAT YOU COPY AND PASTE LARGE SECTIONS OF THE SURF INTO YOUR SECTION, THEN REBUILD THEM NEXT TO THE OLD PARTS AND OVERLAY THE TWO, DELETING THE OLD COPIED PORTION. THIS WAY YOU GET SIMILAR CURVES AND GAPS.

FAJEDITED - To update mapper list.

I wanted to give people a chance to get on the wall of names, sort of a 'new SS crowd' sort of thing. The old one was just a bunch of us bumming around the forums, this should be the same thing. You are more than welcome to your pick of any of the levels. maybe spawn too, if/when I get lazy.

I suppose I can take a look at the map and see which stage I'd like to remake... Which one was the smallest? \

They are all very short. Dr.Pepper's is probably the easiest to remake, and has the least surf. I don't think you could fuck that one up \

Whoever makes Super's has to make sure they keep the roof low so it blocks and annoys the fuck out of you because it makes the level that much harder.
Why so Ryan?

I'll take one (or two or three), whichever one you feel I could do best FAJ. You know the map a whole lot better than I do.
I make my maps with Microsoft Paint.

Agreed. Try to keep the level idiosyncrasies intact.

Like Hotshot's not always pushing you out correctly, and AC's retarded skyboxing, and razr's questionable pushes haha

More than anything a geom fixup would be nice for Mike's, if I recall a few of the disps weren't sewn properly

Also are the bonuses HP pickups staying as they are, or will you be using a model instead?

If someone wants to make me a model, that would be great \

yeah, Mike's needs the most fixing up. It could use someone who is good with displacements and geometry to make look pretty.

Papercut, if I remember, you are pretty good with making commune-esque spawn rooms. Maybe you want to tackle the spawn level?

imo super's needs the most work, a ton of the brushes don't match up, the ramps are too narrow, etc

The narrow ramps and low ceiling were part of its charm \

Super's will be a real challenge, I think, for anyone up to it.

Ryan, you have precedence over any stage you'd like. None of these allocations are in stone.

Especially if youd like to do super's

The listed mappers are really just guidelines, to avoid people overlapping TOO much.

Anyone can do any stage they would like. I just may not use it. If you feel that it is too big a risk that it becomes a waste of your time, then don't bother.

There is no limit date. If you are slow and someone else submits a satisfactory section for your piece, you miss out.

Paper-cut, feel free to take a crack at 5. As for the spawn, I have no real requirments. Just make it fancy and somewhat epic. Have two wall areas for a hall of fame and a new hall of fame/shame

I think it would be cool if you let people just let anyone make whatever stage, and since there will inevitably be multiple remakes of each stage, have votes or decide yourself what to keep.  That would kind of make the wall of fame thing even cooler, because its more like saying "I remade the best version of this stage out of everyone who tried", not just "I made a stage for a super cool FAJ map."
