I have no problem with this being moved to dead surf.

Even though I have what is probably a mostly finished version in my inbox.

What was missing from the one you tidied up?

I know the Jail was not set up all together, but did everything that WAS in there, work?

If you think everything works and nothing was missing, then you did not look very carefully.  \

Do people still surf? Are there servers that have skill maps with jails still?

Yes and no, at least I don't know any with jails. Problem is - I guess - that the rounds wont take much longer than a minute because many surfers are good enough to nofail most "skill"-maps with jails. Continously surfing and advancing in the map just seems more rewarding than having to restart when someone better finishes.

Well, in commune, you don't stop surfing when someone wins. You just control jail traps and as people fail and try to re-spawn at the start you try and kill them.

I guess the whole being dead while other people play is a punishment long forgotten with instant-respawn timer servers? I can see how it would be unappealing to the brute-force try/retry crowd.

I preferred it, and I think a few outliers may have as well.

I don't know about it being objectively bad gameplay, but you make a compelling argument.

No, it's stupid.

Arena combat makes sense. Maps that are clearly skill surf maps with a jail are a complete joke.

No I like to be randomly interrupted by some guy who can consistently nofail the map.

Kinda late to give this idea, but why not make a map where each time you beat a stage you get + a certain amount of hp, then when the timer runs out you get that much in the arena/jail
e.g:
Everyone starts with 50 hp, upon completion of a stage you are given +x hp. Once you beat the map you are sent back to Stage 1.
Stage1: +5hp
Stage2: +5hp
Stage3: +5hp
Stage4: +10hp
Stage5: +10hp

After 5 minute timer is up, all are teleported to jail with their current HP. People that are better will have a good advantage, but gun skills will be more valuable than surf skills in the jail.

Sounds like a good idea, but I don't like being interrupted by a timer either. It isn't nearly as bad as being stopped by more experienced players though. Also, you gotta consider what the players who beat stage 5 would do while they're waiting for the timer. Maybe give them some kinda bonus to grind that gives them 1 hp per completion (so their HP goes above 100).

I was just thinking send them back to stage 1 so they can start all over again, but a challenging bonus sounds a bit better.

People that are good at surfing will have naturally good aim. Now you just want to give them an exponential advantage.

It's still a skill surf map.

That's why the system would have to be balanced around the potential for someone to no fail the map for as long as the timer lasts.

Make players lose 5 health for beating stages.

Then no one plays surf and waits for a boring dust2 to spawn into.
