That is a good idea.

I will likely only keep the more fun traps, and not the random spikes. The hammer, the big weight, the pendulums and the crushers. Maybe have the big hits take 10hp away, and each pendulum take 5.

Yeah that's mostly what I had in mind. Much less dying, much less RTVing, much more time spent playing one of the best maps ever.

Everything. Re-did spawn, all the geometry has been made from scratch except for his name and bonus.

Where did I say "SMOOTH THE RAMPS" or such
I just sayed you could use the old commune stage which would have the same effect (only unaligned brushes but who cares?)

i agree with absolute. there doesn't seem to be much point, other than lighting/slight optimization through better mapping. i think it would be nice to see a spawn that isn't floating, mountains/cliffs by displacements rather than single flat textures, and maybe having the "window" as an entrance in a cave, with the second part indoors.. just some ideas. there are lots of things you can do to make it sexier without raping the dimensions and original gameplay. i think these kind of edits are what FAJ is looking for, maybe i'm wrong.

~i copied this from someone else. it's awesome~

I always found that stage of the original commune rather dull. It's nice that you added a light_environment, but nothing has really changed. As Sangfroid said, there are some things you can do to actually modify this shit without exceeding the borders of restoration. It doesn't look bad, not at all, I just think you're not done yet.  \

Eh, both.

What I am looking to preserve, is the surf geometry and to keep the flow and actual surf the same.

What I am looking to change, is the non-functional look of the levels. Keep the theme, but make it 'better'. Spoz's screenshot is a good example. He is keeping the surf prisms near-identical, but making the level, on the whole, look a hell of a lot better.

So, go crazy, make the levels look as nice as you can. use whatever effects you'd like. Just keep the surf the same, keep the ramps as similar as possible and preserve the general theme.

maybe you could also do something to the ramps (maybe make the metal end it properly)
