Also, what is the policy on testing and public opinion before the competition?

The rules say 'one mapper'; does it violate the rules to get advice from another mapper? Can you post public betas or screenshots to get feedback before submitting the map for final review at the contest due date?

Whats with models? Had the mapper to do this?

The map must be made by a single person, advice does not count as helping make \
As for beta testing and such, sure. There IS money involved, so you're definitely going to want to make sure it works properly!

Awww, disfunctioning maps are always the best part of the mass-testing process.

I remember when the testing day came for the Akron contest and we were all psyched for Bonkers' map, and it had like, 2 working spawn points  \

How are we gonna hold this testing, by the way? Judges get the maps and individually test them? One big lump test? Simple ranking? Score cards that need to be filled out?

My vote would be to have Buck use one of his servers to hold the test. Everyone plays the map for 20 minutes together, fills out a scoring sheet quickly and e-mails it to a set address. Next map comes up for 20, score cards are filled up etc. Inbetween maps we switch to a tailored one room server_change-like map that has the e-mail address as a reminder. after 2-3 minutes to fill out scores, we switch to next map for 20, etc. Maps can be truncated shorter to 20 by majority vote if they are truly unbearable.

We will hold one, or maybe 2 of these nights. and 'keep the polls open' for a week for stragglers who get around to testing. The extra time would also help from excluding skill maps from winning, because often 20 mins is not enough to reach the end of the map, when playing for the first time.

If Sintax or somebody will host an e-mail address to collect all the data, I will compile it all, and it can aid in decided the ranking. The top 3 or 5 can then be voted on in the forums.

The score card would be simple like:

Map Name: []
Solidsurf Forum Name: [] <- the submitter, not the mapper
Looks: [1-10]
Gameplay: [1-20]
Themed: [1-5]
Describe the map in 5 words or less: []

Ideas?

Not everyone will be free to play at the same time, I am sure. There can be spectators too, if need be. Over a week of testing, it should be easy for everyone to try each map and get in a score for it.

Do we have to work alone?

Edit: Two man teams is what I mean. Seems like that'd be fair.
I make my maps with Microsoft Paint.

I suggest writing a simple ES/SM plugin with a menu that will let you vote. It'll save the votes by steamID and by map. (And you can save it to a mysql database and display the votes on a website live.)

That would be the best option in my eyes. Actually how many people are judging it? If its the whole community then this would be an essential part for a well organized contest.

Note that kind of vote.

Any chat/conosle command -> brings up a menu that you have to fill out.

If you go by FAJ's criteria, then you pick a rating for looks, gameplay, etc, and describe the map in 5 words or less. Then when you're ready you there can be an option to "submit" the vote (that will check if the form is completed or not).
