Obstacle setup in skill maps
« on: August 21, 2010, 06:47:54 PM »
A short question, and I'm not seeking long discussions on this topic. I just want to hear your opinion about this.

Is it ok to use the same obstacle setup twice in a skill map? I mean, two completely the same obstacles in two different stages? The specific obstacle is this one:

It's a bhop through a window so the timing and height must be perfect.

I would like to know, if I use this twice in the same map, but not in the same stage, would I be considdered uhm, what's the word for it.. unoriginal?

i used the same obstacles in surf_annoyance quite a few times, mind you they weren't precise as this one is.
id say, make one of them easier, and the other harder, then it would be ok, in my mind

+1 or make the same movement but change the textures/shape/... for both

imo.. if it's either something you like, or it's fun, and you just want to use it more (and if it fit's the level), go for it. repetition isn't a bad thing, as long as you don't overdo it or repeat things that are already old and played out.

~i copied this from someone else. it's awesome~

You have a moustache, so my argument is invalid.
anyway, i'd say the obstacle almost isnt the same if the ramp leading to it, and the ramp following it isnt the same. Obstacles are mostly about how you move through air, so if the velocity and placement of the ramps are different the second time, the movement would be different. But if the movement is exactly the same both times, it would be a sign of unoriginality, imo.

I don't see a problem with this at all... if it fits well, go for it. Its not like you are stealing some one else's idea.
If two ramps are in a row in two levels, would that be considered unoriginal?
