SDK youtube channel
« on: October 11, 2010, 03:09:42 PM »
dont know if anyone else likes watching people make maps but i do, i think it would be a good idea to record yourself making the map and upload it to your own youtube channel then post the link on here. anyone else like the sound of that \ ?

It won't be a video, it'll be a movie \

So, basically what you're suggesting is: make map - look through raw video - figure out what the hell you were doing - edit video - upload movie?
I'd watch it, but there's no way im spending 25% more time than necessary on a map. I usually can't stand the look of a map once it's done.

Like the idea, but you have to be absolutely sure the map indeed is going to be finished, and not placed in dead surf halfway through, which happens alot (to me).

I think it would be pretty awsome to see some of the techniques people use.

The only thing I'd be worried about is speding 5 hours making a video, and the result is a 40gb video file.

Or you could do something like this, and have a stream going.

Sometimes when I used to map, junior would get on team viewer and watch me map.  If you trust someone enough you could have them watch you via team viewer, it would be a lot better quality and live... sounds awesome.

People would get bored with me, since mapping is usually when I smoke, so it takes a while.
I make my maps with Microsoft Paint.

It would be interesting for someone to stream live speed mapping. (Prepare everything in your head and map it out as fast as possible) To show off mappin skilzzz I guess while the spectators criticize you in chat. (Maybe not the best idea)

Yep, awesome for HL2: Ep2

Actually its a custom version of source 2009, rob has made a shit-ton of custom shaders and entities to make this work, not to mention a highly tweaked AI engine that is extremely lightweight (able to handle upto 100 zombies at once with minimal lag)

That cave was brilliant.  Those water effects would be great for the map I'm making now :O

On topic: People would probably die of boredom watching me map live.  I test so much that there's probably more testing than mapping tbh.  A ten minute video with something like 2x speed might work though.

When I started mapping, about 8 months ago, I watched my friend map when I was round his one day. It was boring but I learnt a few things.

My neighbor taught me how to map \ this SDK youtube channel is a good idea I must say. The Solidsurf Community could even have their own page and we could upload tutorials, time lapses, etc.

Hah! Same here. Except within a few days I was better than him, and now teach him everything.

it would be a lot better quality

SAR

M?

What about livesteam.com? They give you an app to download and you can broadcast your screen and more then 1 person can watch you map and even chat with you while you do it! Also i don't know if you would have to pay for livesteam plus account or not but you can even get HD quality!

Oh and you can have feed from your webcam showing in the bottom corner and people can see your learning face \
