Happy birthday!
« on: March 30, 2011, 01:02:47 AM »
This day, March 29th, 100 years ago is when the U.S. Military adopted the 1911 as it's standard issue sidearm. Pay some fucking respect to the gun that formed this country.

If I ever got a handgun it'd be a 1911

If they adopted it after the country was formed, how did it form our country?

Or better; why is it that every history channel show on guns I end up watching claims that THIS (i.e. w/e the special is about) is the most important one to America?

Ryan, please tell me the most important gun ever. Objectively. and by that I mean in your biased opinion.

Well it didn't FORM the country, obviously nature formed the country.  But it's been on every military man's side in every modern war (modern meaning the last century).

Well there are a lot of weapons special to American history, in my opinion, but the 1911 is just a side arm that has been around for over a century and is still in production and has been left unchanged.
Other weapons that are important to American history are also the M1 Garand, but it has a HUGE down fall.  When it's out of ammunition, the enblock clip pops out of the internal magazine, creating a loud PING noise... which signified to the enemy that the shooter was in need of reloading, which would in turn allow the enemy to charge and kill the shooter.
Example; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jobfbmwVu9o
It was a great weapon in American history, but it cost a lot soldiers lives.

The most important gun EVER, in my opinion... would have to be one the AK series weapons.  Mikhail Kalashnikov created a truly great weapon.  Cheap, reliable and sexy.
But the most important gun in American history would have to definitely be the Colt M1911, it has been left unchanged for a century.  That really says something about it.  Also, .45 is elite pistol caliber
(so is 10mm but whatever \).

I don't own any currently, but my dad owns one... so I've held, used and maintained one.

Remember FAJ, I'm a broke ass college kid, my conceal carry weapon is a Ruger 9mm P-Series pistol (inexpensive, for those who don't know anything about guns).

Surely you can order them online for a fair price!  Have you checked?

You can get this one for ~30 (USD)

If google doesn't change its logo for the event, its not important.

Does Google change it's logo for YOUR birthday?  Nope... but that doesn't mean it's not important.  Just sayin' :].  And besides, it's not a holiday, it's a birthday (or adoption day).

I would recommend checking the date on the filter (if you're going to use it for anything in particular, or if you're creating a bug-out-bag or something \), because if the filter is out of date it will actually cause more damage to your lungs than anything it would filter out.  If you're going to invest in a gas mask for anything other than collection, be ready to spend money on filters as well!  And if you buy new filters, don't just put them in for fun, each filter has an air-life, I guess you would say, meaning after 48 hours or 72 hours the filters are considered hazardous.  Most surplus gas masks you buy will come with 2 replacement lenses, 2 replacement filters and a waterproof shoulder/hip bag, again make sure you check for dates on the filters.  Also, one last thing, if you decided to wear a mask with filters, DO NOT run around with it on unless you have trained yourself to breath through straws while running... because you will pass out from lack of oxygen.  \

Woody Harrelson?
