Also I have a good general idea of what the storyboard will look like, we just need to start organizing all of our ideas on paper.

Edit: I'm starting to work 8 hour days 5 days a week, and I'll be taking off to a trade school starting July first. So if other leaders could step up and get together to get this project on track I would appreciate it! I'll still be around but I will just need a hand keeping things moving forward.

I agree with you, as soon as we get the team thread put together we need to get to work. We have just about every position we need so I'll see if Sintax can put the thread together early. A lot of the discussion has been going on outside the thread, as soon as I get a good basic plan together I'll post an update.

Also don't stress too much I'll only be in class 4 hours a day (all work's done during class). So it just depends on how much time my job will take up on the side of school, I plan to set some time aside to help lead everything.

your right and wrong at the same time here buck, we should not start building anything until we have a clear idea and understanding of what we want. That other mod thing that was being built before fell flat because we were all shouting ideas at the guy at once. so its better to shout out all our ideas now, sort through them and choose the best ones, rather then later when were neck deep in programming.

Any surf mod with more than just multiplayer is going to suck. No single player, no coop, just multiplayer like it is now.

And for the love of god, DONT put what you call 'skill' surf into this mod. DONT DO IT! Might as well take a shit, wrap it up, and sell that since they are one in the same.

Well today's June 29th and I just added a couple more additions to the team and I'd say we're pretty much good to go. If there's anyone else who's interested in a position that isn't already filled let me know, also we could always use some more backups for more specific jobs besides mapping.

UPDATE: I'll keep everyone outside the team board up to date the best I can..

Here's a rough idea of what's been going on-

Maybe surf ramps could be the new form of efficient transportation in the future? In this case they make special courses for surfing tournaments, and some paths can just be in ruins and that's what makes them difficult to surf.. Idea #1
3 maps "level" ideas (End of the world style)

Level 1: Futuristic metropolis surf course -Time trial
-Fight Npc's to escape from metropolis area

Level 2: Desert ruins- From the metropolis to an area that has been turned to ruins (Makeshift surf course)
-Crystal skulls (Something similar) to collect in hard to get places that enable "extras"

Level 3: Underground fortress- wood, rocks, lava underground construction of surf course
-Enable doors to stop lava flow along the way (Same concept as capturing bases)

How could the other player fall behind if it's coop? If they die then isn't it just single player? How will coop even work on a surf map? You also mentioned that if you fall behind on the storyline server then the player is killed and just has to watch. Imo this should be avoided unless there's plenty of checkpoints for people to respawn at. Also what if you're playing with someone like Sinsa? Everyone will be left behind, especially new players.

Who's gonna steal their ideas? I doubt someone else is gonna form a team to copy their ideas for making a surf mod.

multiplayer isn't 100% ironed out yet, and i don't think it will be until we get to a testing stage where we can see what works and what doesn't. but for now, ideas thrown around seem similar to the workings of synergy, with respawn checkpoints similar to l4d (like you mentioned) - the ideal is a full storyline that supports multiplayer, it's likely there will be some issues doing that well with more players (probably the reason why most co-op type games are limited in the number of players), but trying to make it work is the goal here i beleive.

i'm pretty sure it'll have lots more too it than surf, including npcs and enemies - but this could still be a problem, though i'm sure it can be worked around when properly tested and a few more ideas get shot about. thanks for questioning the multiplayer, these are definitely some things to keep in mind to ensure it will actually work.

You know, this mod would work amazing if it mimicked TF2's approach.

Straight up multiplayer, but you have themed levels and background stories so you get a general idea of why you are doing this or that.

Quick update: The mod's going good, the mod framework itself is about ready. (Works great, but could still use some improvements as we come up with new ideas) The first deadline for mapping is August 10th, and that's to complete the four sections for part1. (Containment center/spawn area (by Ryan), basic training facility (by Buck), Advanced training facility (by Sangre) and the transportation system which is by svbg869

Well, believe it or not we're already six months into creating the Source surf mod! At this point we're pretty amazed at what's been accomplished. After hearing that CS:GO will take vmf's and is likely to support surf the project's back in motion. So our goal is to have the full game released to the public by later next year and in the meantime we will have servers hosting portions of the game for beta testing so you might get a chance to try it out early.

Here's a hint of what the levels look like - by Sangre, Tioga060 & Electric

Don't forget about the combat maps! I'm sold if combat maps are involved.... and css weapons or the like. HL2 surfing the guns are all dead on no matter what. Getting lit up from across the map by a dude with a machine gun is.... different...
