A new start - the evolution of Dragonrock Surf
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:52:07 PM »
Hey I'm back everyone! I'm planning to start a new CSS community with a few servers and one of those will be a surf server!

For those who don't remember, my name was LambdA and was a clan leader and owner of the dragon rock CSS surf server about 2-4 years ago. At one point it was the most popular no rpg/dm surf server in the world.

This surf server will be run in a similar way and have similar maps to the DR sever so we won't be uplifting lots of new skill surf timer maps. There will be some from a few years ago. But the server will have a wide arrange of maps if you like combat, linear, skill, classic or unique surf!! Forum votes to decide future mapcycles.

This is very early days and I have no idea if this will be as popular as DR surf ever was.

I miss the days of papercut, target practise, element, FAJ, Ryan s and others bringing out quality maps regularly!

If things go REALLY well, and server lasts more than few months , then maybe we can try our competition of "who is the worlds best surfer". We had that tournament in DR surf but it was badly organised by me and I don't think it got completed...

I will post the ip in the next few days if I'm allowed to...

P.s. There will also be a public rotation and gungame server as well and possibly one or 2 more .

IP: Ip is 109.70.149.77:27026

Thank you <3 let's just see what happens . There are a lot of maps in those 2 years since the end of dragon rock so I need to have a look at gamebanana. But I don't think many new maps will go on there .

God is it great to see DR coming back. Is it still going to be a European server?
Why so Ryan?

It will be European still . But remember it won't be called dr ,'community name is different. I think the server will go live today so please spread the word when it does! And hopefully the pub and gungame servers will get popular as well.

Lots of good maps have come out in the last 2 years, you would be a fool not to add them.

I will be playing here hopefully, would be nice to have a populated all around server.

What are the chances of east-coast USA getting minimum lag on this? DR was always a nice server, but I lagged more often than not \

Ip is 109.70.149.77:27026

Its called World Fraggers Surf and thats the community name:

www.worldfraggers.co.uk

Ive still got more mods to install but most of the basic stuff is on. No idea how popular this will be. Its technically a trial server

World Fraggers??? Why not DR again? You'd pull a larger crowd with a more familiar name.

Its just something new from dragonrock and thats in the past. This is a community, not a clan with a big community like last time. Ill do a message from the DR steam group to come over and play on the server \

I will try and keep the traditions like having the forum mapcycle votes, but maybe new features as well \

And the server will NEVER have rpg or deathmatch or timer mods  \

How is the maplist? There is a few new ones I want to add, but the maps were the same dr surf had 2 years ago. About 60ish maps on the server.

I'm going to lower the rtv % to 60% from 80

Can you remove the 'rtv is not allowed yet', or make it something less?

After every vote it resets the rtv allowed time so you have to always wait for it to be allowed.
And do we have to see the rules all the time like that? why not just ban people who do not follow them, instead of pushing them in everyone's faces?

The menu with rules is a good idea, but don't force it up every time. Just put adverts and in the motd to type !rules for the server rules, or something.

Yeah this kind of threw me through a loop too.

You mean a big loop \

Well we do have a wide range of maps on the server and those 2 were extremely popular in the dr days. Server used to be full all the time when they were played. But maybe not now.

We are going to trim the maplist sometime and I still want to think of a surf competition. I am very tempted to retry that "who is the best" surfer competition and also maybe "who is the best" surf shooter . So one tournament on skill maps, one on combat maps. But I don't have the time at the moment.

Would anyone be interested in taking part? If I get a lot of interest, we could set it up in the future.

The last tournament failed...

If you want to see the best surfer just join ksf and type !surftop... lol

but the idea to make a competition with combat surf maps is a good idea imo

Ban everyone in the top 20 of INTOX And Ksf servers top surfers list.  \
Then we'll get a legit competition.

I think they both dick-touched each other a little bit in the past.

But seriously, you should consider banning people who are skill surfers as their religion (for the competition) or make it invite only or something.  Because you know some faggots are going to come in and use their basement-dwelling, no-life-surfing skill to win the competition.  This should be a regular mans competition.  VIVE REVOLUTION!
