Map & Textures ?
« on: February 06, 2012, 04:19:16 PM »
Yo guys,i have actually a problem:
I have a lot of ideas for the surf, but  i am always discouraged in my projects by the texture scheme i use and the environnement(like decorations or windows or things that make a map looking good)and  a bit about lightning lol(i use light_env dont worry^^)
May you tell me if some things specially inspire you to make environment or to use your  great textures scheme, because this is really annoying.

Good continuation to all the surf community,Escencia.
PS:this isn't a troll post

You should really spend some time in hammer, and try to figure out what suits your map best. Not all maps go well with a dark metal environment, as an example. And some won't go well with sunny environments, and so on. The point is, you shouldn't ask others for "great texture schemes", but rather come up with your own style. I for instance use a green-ish industrial environment these days (not claiming I invented this theme).

Or you could be like me and remember the dramatic landscapes of places you vacationed to as a child.

  • I don't always surf, but when I do, it's skill.

Where did you vacation to that doors wouldn't open?
I'd like to be under the sea, in an octopus' garden in the shade.

I've heard a lot of people go to google images for reference pictures, but I find my imagination works better. If you're looking for something new, that only slightly strays from a default look; throw an official map's lighting onto your map. You don't have to change the skybox right away, but if you find one you like, you're welcome to.

I think recreating everyday scenery (buildings, places) and throwing in ramps is a cool way to make a surf path more interesting. I'd definitely play a surf map that's set around my university, the train stations I travel to daily, areas around my home etc.

experiment with textures and lightning, going for the same ones all the time gets boring and bland.
