Let's make the first CS:GO Multimap
« on: May 05, 2012, 02:35:43 AM »
I understand that a lot of us around here have CS:GO now, which means that a lot of us around here have the CS:GO SDK. If we make an awesome XIV type multimap surf map then it will be the most popular map on servers for a long time. I know that at least intox is looking into getting csgo beta servers, so we are guaranteed to have at least one server playing it. Since there is no bhopping yet, we're going to have to design this without bhops for now.

Here are some of the elements that should be included, post if interested:

Spawn -

Segmented Skill - Tioga060
Segmented Skill -
Segmented Skill -
Segmented Skill -

Arena Combat - Tioga060
Arena Combat - Arroba
Arena Combat -
Arena Combat -

Elements that require bhops but we could make anyways:
Gajfort -
Scoutsknifes - Arroba
Fan arena -

I want this map to look good and utilize as much of the new engine as it can, so we might want to designate a few people to help decorate levels.

I'd be interested in remaking/revamping the "windows" level from XIV, it was always one of the more popular ones so I think it would be a great one to bring over for this map.

So what? There is almost nothing new, get you goddamn hammer open, use some dev textures and give them to us. not having the beta doesn't mean you can't map

Making maps for a game you don't have, depending on others to texture and light your work. SURE, I WOULD LIKE TO DO THAT!

If you stop and think for a minute, you'll notice that the only moment you'll not be able to do it by youself is texturing.

Except everything is different in CS:GO. We've seen the screenshots. There's clearly a difference in lighting, textures, and obviously some of the models. It'd be like mapping for TF2 in the CSS editor; it wouldn't be fun.

And it's that simple.

+ I don't find it very motivational making stuff for a game I don't currently have.

1# There is no difference in lighting, the only thing that they've added is an entity called env_cascade_light, that replaces your light_environment with dynamic shadows, and I think that they won't work well in surf maps.

2# Textures? Not really, the textures don't even have bumpmaps, and most of them are from the L4D series/CSS. From what I've seen, there is around 50 new textures.

3# Models? Yeah, they are different, it's a new game, but, many surf maps don't even have models.

And surfing is pretty much the same thing in CS:GO, I'd even say it is more "fluid"

Yes, you may not have the game, but you'll have it in around a month, when it gets released.

And that's when I'll map for it. Not to be a dick, but even those little things that you mentioned make a difference to me. Plus, there's clearly going to be at least minor engine upgrades with it.

You need to set Source SDK to the game you're mapping for, right? Then how can you map for CS:GO, if you haven't installed it yet?

Hammer is a "global tool" for the Source Engine, you can open all of the .vmf files in different versions and games available in Source. but there will be some "bugs" that will cause the custom textures and models do be black and pink/error, because you don't really have it. It is pretty easy to see perfect ports from one game to another, in Source.

It was worth a try. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2688800

If you do want to map for CS:GO on css though, just join a 100 tick server, then create server with your map, and sv_airaccelerate 1000.

Also keep in mind that prestrafing is capped and bhopping is fucked, so make sure those aren't needed to beat your maps.

Airaccelerate doesn't need to go past 150, it works just fine.

I'm going to be postponing the organization of this until more mappers get csgo, feel free to make things if you come up with ideas.

This was a cool idea Tioga, too bad it won't come together until later.
