Apparently, CS:GO will be able to do this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xFbRecjKQA

So the question remains, who will be making Surf_Euclidean?

Wait what? Almost every bit of that stuff looks possible with existing options in hammer either with landmark teleports, or using portal "technology" to connect different areas.  I've seen a video of it before like a year ago, don't remember the correct term ... instancing?

You can pull it off like this in hammer now if it is just the one player. The fun part will be seeing players in a different axis than your own in multiplayer.

Gonna have to do an escher-style 'stairs' GG map \

Or maybe just a jail.

Haha, Escher was the first thing that came to mind after watching this. This is so cool, and it would be even cooler to make a surf map with these things!

For those that are saying this already achievable, I feel you may be missing the exact nature of this slightly.

This is more than landmark teleports, you can actually interact with and see where you are being teleported to. Landmark teleports are limited, in that you can build the world geometry, but anything dynamic (or for example, other players) are completely invisible until you pass through the teleport.

I would be so keen on this, and it's something I've wanted for a long time. Let's hope that for some reason they put it in the CS:GO SDK.

This is more of what I'm talking about, and the video was posted a year ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFPOUXmvx_U .  However, some of the things in the OP video (certainly not all) can still be accomplished with landmark teleports.

I'm not trying to downplay the concept of this being made possible in CSGO, but it just strikes me in a way that's like "oh, this again?".  If they don't make the process a pain in the ass, it should make for some very interesting combat maps.

I got bad info from another forum.

I just decompiled that map in the video and the entity "linked_portal_door" is not in the GO SDK.

If it runs on the same engine, can you not just take the entity info out of the .fgc of p2 and edit it into the .fgc of go?  Sort of like I did with env_entity_dissolver from hl2 to css

How do you get that sort of thing to work for a public map?  Are you supposed to just add the new .fgc with a pakrat type program?

If it exists in the engine, it doesn't need to be paked.  If it DOES exist, blizzard just didn't add the entity that makes the code work to CSGOs config because it was irrelevant for that game.

So you're using multiple landmark teleports, and saying it's the same thing...

It's a basic representation, I understand they're different but it provides the same effect.

I think a more fun application of this sort of thing would be to have a player surf through different levels of the same room.  We're so used to surf being a downward journey, but if half way through the map, you surfed over the spawn, it could be pretty neat.  I know exile accomplished something like this, except it uses stages.

Certainly possible with what's available to us now too.

That's why I loved exile so much. It fucks with you, because you're used to straight forward surf, but instead you surf through the same level twice but through a different path. Exither's map also did this, I can't remember the name though.
