« on: January 01, 2014, 09:25:01 PM »
CS:S VERSION : http://css.gamebanana.com/maps/178355
TF2 VERSION : http://tf2.gamebanana.com/maps/183578

Just been working on this for the past 2 weeks. Started surfing 3 weeks ago and got fed up with the shit fullbright and or no detail maps.

So heres a picture dump. It will be on the steam workshop as a final version in the next few days hopefully. If you would like to try out the current beta, come to avanic surf in gmod @ 74.91.116.27:27015

Comments / Criticism welcome.

And a little secret area -

This looks really nice. I hope the surf is good too.

Edit: Just played it. The surf is nice. No annoying obstacles so it's better than most maps for me but it's also pretty basic (making it less replayable).

Meh. Its not meant to be bullshit amounts of hard. Theres a severe lack of nub friendly maps out there. Considering I've only been surfing for 3 weeks, I would be an ass to make something I couldn't even surf. That and I don't even know what is and is not possible to surf, so I couldn't possibly make stupid hard obstacles.

I definitely agree it's good to make maps that you are comfortable with beating difficulty wise and I think the current difficulty level is fine. It's just that there isn't much that players can do to improve their time even if they're good at surf, making the map less replayable for them. It's incredibly easy to keep all of your speed the full way through and there isn't much potential for skips. surf_fobidden_ways_ksf shows how even an easy map (Tier 1) can still require a ton of skill to beat quickly: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lS6-G2VqM_Y I'm guessing this is your first surf map so you shouldn't have to worry about these complexities for now, but just keep this stuff in mind for future maps.

Map finished/uploaded on workshop.

If some mod would be so kind to move this to the waves (completed maps) section, that would be very nice. Thank you.

I uploaded the map to mediafire in case any CSS players wanna play this. I had to download the workshop item and then extract the map from the .gma file in my gmod addons folder using some tool I found on facepunch.

How about next time ask I edit it to work for CS:S \

Don't even think about decompiling it either, I'll get around to it and put it on Gamebanana.

You wouldn't need to decompile the map to add spawn points anyway. You can easily add them with entspy without damaging the map.

When I played the beta3 from the gmod server the spawn points worked in CSS, so I assumed this version would also work fine too. I was really tired at the time I posted that and I should've checked the map again first.

This is a great map!
Proper use of displacements and models is a rare sight in surf mapping.
This is also one of the few maps that came out in the last few years that I can actually complete without getting extremely frustrated.

Good job! Hope to see more from you.

Actual use of vrad is a rare sight in surf mapping.

Overall it is pretty meh tier in terms of mapping. There are a lot more things I could have done with models but didn't because of boredom and obligations to other things.

I think I may continue the theme though, do what I wanted to do with this one but couldn't due to sources petty limitations. Mostly all underground and what not. We'll see what happens.

Positively surprised by this map. Pretty smooth and like panzer said no annoying obstacles. Don't like the lava room though.

Whats wrong with it, aside from the horribly tiled textures?
