Yet another Smooth Surf Ramp Tutorial, video + commentary
« on: September 24, 2014, 02:29:57 AM »
I know it's been done multiple times, and most mappers already know how, but here's a quick and (hopefully) easy to follow commentated tutorial on making smooth surf ramps meant for beginner mappers.  And you all get to see the beautiful face of Crayz

Nice tutorial man  \  but I would suggest to use a 4:5 ratio. When I started surf mapping my ramps were always way too steep. I also missed the playerclip over the actual ramp. But all in all its a good tutorial and was easy to follow. Keep it up \

Less steep ramps = better.

Thanks \  I just took a look at the ramp and it's a little bit steeper then I first thought, usually I like to keep my ramps just barely past the slope angle so they're nice and comfortable.  I'm curious what the actual slope angle is for Source Engine anyways

The required slope is >45 degrees (45.0000001).

I've done tests on how flat a ramp can be, it seems that it actually has to be >45.6 degrees in order to be surfable.

I haven't done any extensive tests myself, I just assumed it was programmed to check if the surface normal was greater than 45 degrees away from straight up.
