surf_froots (collab)
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:59:20 AM »

So as a joke, I guess this is a thing that a few people are already semi-interested in. The intention is to outright mock and degrade the series of maps based around foods, specifically fruits. Goal is to make this map as long as possible, think surf_classics with length and how awful the mapping should be. Your stage should be intentionally bad, on the tier of just finishing your first map tutorial for the first time. Though ironically bad with good surf is totally acceptable.

Add me on steam if need be.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
The standards are low so anybody can participate, there are just a few rules :

No more than five (5) textures and five (5) model / decal textures per stage. They can be custom if you want.
Limits on the final compile should not exceed five percent (5%) on anything. If you go over on brushes (which, with this quality should be hard, I can make things models as need be)
Intentionally shitty optimization is not acceptable
Outright troll tier things are questionable (though this is subjective and will be based on the general consensus of people involved)
You can make as many stages as you want, but they cannot be a continuation of the same fruit.
All custom textures / models need to be included with your submission
No harder than Tier 3
Do not depend on your stage being lit by an environmental light
Design your maps surf with sv_airaccelerate 150 , sv_gravity 800, sv_maxvelocity 3500
Deadline to post your map is December 26th, 2014 (12/26/14)
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

So let the bidding begin on who wants to do what stage. This will be first come first serve or you may trade with somebody if they agree to it. In your post just tell me what you're doing and I'll put it up in the op.

I already made that watermelon stage, but I guess even that piece of crap was a bit elaborate for this magnificent undertaking. I shall make a kebab stage instead! \

EDIT:

behold the magnificence..

So I decided to make Watermelon...

On the harder side of Tier 2, but it's rather fun in my opinion. Optimized to the best of my ability.

Once I finish an easter egg, the stage will be 100% complete.

Not ugly enough and uses too many actual decent textures. Use this as a guideline.

".125 scale concrete, one color kind of matches the fruit, pictures of said fruit everywhere, name of stage and your name in blocky ass brush letters, striped ramps, shit surf and garbage lighting "

Here's the original version of my stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxTlu3nEcVo

Apparently I didn't make it ugly enough (didn't know that was possible) and it was too close to having an actual theme of watermelon, so changing the textures to under-sized, overused and ugly brick and concrete textures.

Here's what I've done so far to "fix" my stage (this is the final version):

The cool thing about this collab is, the way limits are currently going, there could be more than 30 stages for this. All you need to do with this collab is make the stage and post it.

With the hub, peesh, appoole, wader melon, fig, mangosteen and banan, the map isn't even pushing 15% on any important limit.

Seriously, nobody has to ask "if theres room". Theres plenty. Come on in.
