Really, I don't want to steal anybody's work. I really appreciate good ideas and their implementations \. Sometimes there is just the question, how the mapper solved the problem technically and that's why I bypass the compile protection. \

Ok, you could declare the technical implementation as intellectual property aswell, ...

if somebody decomps to find out how it works, they're 90% likely to try and implement something similar in their map.

What's wrong with that? I didn't decompile protect Eclipse for a reason.
I make my maps with Microsoft Paint.

-Link removed due to TargetPractice getting pissed \ -

Anyways you cant keep EVERYONE from decompiling your map, if someone really want to, they can.
I too hate when ppl decompile your map to copy it but i think its fair to decompile for example if you wonder how they made something ect. (:

If you guys get pissed over the link, tell me and ill remove :/

Remove your link immediately, you're giving potential thieves a chance to decompile work that was protected to STOP them from copying.

I don't have the heart to decompile a map, even for reference. It just doesn't feel right.

Work it out for yourself instead of stealing it.

If you need to decompile to work out how something works, you shouldn't be attempting to understand it in the first place.

Yeah you're right.  Everyone should know everything about mapping instinctively.  Otherwise they're a bad mapper and a terrible person who deserves to die.

Exactly...

Or, I mean that with practice and experiments, you'll learn much more than stealing other people's work.

While you guys are on this topic...

A map could be decompile protected in such a way that it would be a real hassle to decompile it. It would be extremely annoying to decompile it even after you figured out how its protected.

Just saying for future references if any one will ever need.

I believe an author has the right to his work and the knowledge that is required to create it. Although he/she *should* promote open source because it allows bigger and better things to be made.

Any decompile protection can be bypassed with entspy.

Or, I mean that with practice and experiments, you'll learn much more than stealing other people's work.

Not everyone decompiles to steal. Looking at how someone did something is not thievery, if the world worked that way we would be in the dark ages still. Half of learning is someone showing you how to do something, decompiling for the sake of learning is you simply showing yourself how someone did something. And even then you are looking at the finished product and not the creation process so it would take some time and tinkering.

Why do you think valve released the .vmfs for their maps? b/c they know that people will learn more from it.

There's a tutorial on this forum on how to disable fall damage: http://forums.solidsurf.info/index.php/topic,894.0.html

Also why would you bump a month old topic to say that?

If one is determined enough, they can just open it in notepad and take out the entity.

You don't. Just don't protect your map and leave it alone.
